Christmas Eve....Hawaiian Style!

Hiking Diamond Head! What a great way to spend Christmas Eve with the family. We may not have snow, but we have Extinct Volcanoes!

View of Diamond Head Crater... taken a few months ago from the top of Tantalus

This Crater was formed aprox. 3000,000 years ago during a single brief eruption! The broad crater covers 350 acres.
Many, many, many years later, the trail to the summit was built in 1908 as a part of the US Army Coastal Artillery Defense system. The trailhead with numerous switchbacks was designed  for mule and foot traffic.
The bunkers along the crater rim were built in 1915

Ok, history class over ;)

Christmas Eve, we decided to hike up to the top of the crater
Rudy & Brooke at the beginning of the trail
2nd set of stairs you hit on the trail..this one was 99 steps...thats nothing after  hiking
KOKO HEAD, lol...so Rudy
decided to run up.
We have arrived!
Wow!! We were up top for a bit when suddenly the most amazing double rainbow
appeared! It kept getting stronger and stronger. I have seen many rainbows, but this tops my list!
End of the rainbow
Got a tourist to take our pic :)
Under the rainbow!
The Mauka side of the lookout is amazing as well!
We ended our day at Haleiwa Joe's
Talk about relaxing! Yes this is the view from the restaurant!
Love my family
